The Van De Graaff Kit is hand operated, and has a mounted dome base. The Van De Graaff is used for generating electric charge, and is great for electrostatic demonstrations and studying various phenomena associated with electrical charge. The near spherical dome is supported by an insulated clear Perspex pillar at the base. A removable, flat rubber belt rotates through rollers mounted at both ends of the pillar. The lower roller shaft has a pulley driven by a hand crank. The continuous rotation of the flat rubber belt results in the accumulation of charge on the dome until the electrical breakdown of the air surrounding the sphere occurs. With sufficient charge built up, bringing the grounded discharged sphere sufficiently close will result in the transfer of charge from dome to ground in the form of an electrical spark. A grounding terminal is provided on the base. The kit is supplied with a discharge sphere mounted on a long insulated handle. The complete kit includes the following; comb, arcing light bulb, corked bob, electrostatic fan, foam bead canister, discharge wand, and a test light screwdriver. The Van De Graaff has a voltage potential of up to 100,000 Volts. Instructions are included with the kit.
