The capillary equilibrium tube is a thought-provoking demonstration for a physical science classroom. Normally, if the arms on this device were all the same inner diameter, water in connected tubes would reach equilibrium at the same height because of equal atmospheric pressure. However, with this device, the cross-sectional area of each tube alters the final height of the water in that tube, because each tube is made from capillary glass of differing inner diameters.
